Lebanon calls for investigation over Israel 's stealing of its waters
The Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud continued his contacts over the request Lebanon had to the UN to investigate the Israeli theft of al-Wazzani waters, near to the Lebanese borders with occupied Palestine.
Diplomatic sources at the Lebanese foreign ministry said that Hamoud expects the UN to respond with the Lebanese request to form a committee to investigate these israeli thefts.
He sources noted the evidence on Israel's theft like installing pumps and pipes for transporting waters. To this effect the spokesman for the UNIFIL working in Lebanon Timor Goksil stressed Israel's continued theft of the waters of al-Wazzani river which adjoins the borders with Israel.
In a statement he made on Wednesday Goksil said that Israel had installed some 20 years ago pumps and pipelines to transport the waters to outside the Lebanese territories.
On another development a UNIFIL officer stressed that the UN forces are observing the moves along the Lebanese southern borders in light of warnings recently launched by Israel. He described the situation in the region as tense and that the UN forces had intensified its moves and that it called on the Lebanese civilians not to approach the border points.
