Jerusalem fact finding committee is composed of seven figures

The Palestinian ambassador in Ankara Fuad Yassin on Wednesday announced that the Palestinian government invited former Turkish President Suleiman Demirel to take part in the fact- finding commission concerning confrontations in the Palestinian territories, agreed to be set up during Sharm esh Sheikh summit.

Yassin said that Demirel ( 77 year old) who assumed the post of the President in his country between 1993- 2000 will take part in the committee which includes seven figures including the US former Secretary of State Warren Christopher, former President of South Africa Nelson Mandella and the US Senator George Mitchell.

Three other members in the committee are still needed to be identified. The Palestinian ambassador expected choosing " a Japanese figure and another Chinese."

The Turkish daily Millet said that the US secretary of State Madeleine Albright contacted Demirel on Tuesday to ask him for taking part in the committee.
