Morocco supports UN action saying SC resolution should have provided for refugee repatriation
Moroccan proposals to enable refugees return home after 25 years of detention and register Sahrawis who have reached voting-age since compilation of lists in 1993 have so far received no positive response, Morocco said.
A release circulated Monday by the Kingodm mission to the UN after unanimous adoption of resolution 1234 extending MINURSO mission for another four months in the Sahara, says the Security Council resolution should have included provisions on the serious humanitarian problem of Sahrawi refugees repatriation and drew attention to the ordeal of thousands in genuine detention conditions in Tindouf camps.
The Moroccan mission release recalls how the kingdom called in Berlin, in answer to the Council wish, for open and direct dialog to enable all Sahrawis contribute to the development of their region and their country, Morocco. The kingdom, went on the document, remains ready to fully support the UN secretary general and his personal envoy for the settlement of the issue.
