Nigeria cancels decision to open sahrawi republic embassy in Abuja, daily

Originally published

Nigeria has cancelled its decision to open an embassy of the so-called Sahrawi republic (SADR) in Abuja.

Nigeria canceled the decision it made last month to open a SADR's embassy in capital city Abuja, reported this Friday Saudi International daily Acharq Al-Awsat, quoting well-informed sources.

The daily recalled that Nigerian and South African foreign ministers visited Morocco recently and were received by King Mohammed VI (October 16) in Casablanca.

Advisor to the King and Moroccan envoy, Mohamed Mouatassim, was dispatched to Pretoria and Abuja (October 15-18) with written messages from King Mohammed VI to the South African and Nigerian Presidents.

The Sahrawi republic is self-proclaimed by the polisario front which claims the independence of the Sahara, a Moroccan southern territory that was formerly under Spanish rule and that was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid accords. An increasing number of countries worldwide are withdrawing recognition of the puppet SADR.
