Symbolic sit-in in memory of former detainees

The Truth and Justice Forum, a non-government association formed by victims of human rights abuses, staged over the weekend a symbolic sit-in in front of Tazmammart jail "to pay tribute to the memory of former detainees."

Families of deceased detainees and survivors participated in the sit-in together with civil society activists, intellectuals, journalists and representatives of political parties and trade unions.

The demonstrators held banderoles calling for shedding light on the fate of missing people and handing to families corpses of those officially declared dead.

The sit-in is "a call to officials to unveil the atrocities Morocco has experienced and try those responsible for these acts," said Driss Benzekri, head of the Forum.
