Moroccan political parties vow to ensure honest, transparent elections

Originally published

Moroccan majority political parties have voiced "full commitment" to ensure the honesty and transparency of the coming elections, and to ban all forms of vote buying.

The democratic challenge requires the mobilization of all efforts to struggle against irregularities that tarnished previous elections, the parties said in a release, calling for "a genuine change in political culture."

The parties also committed to "disavow" any of their candidates, who would "use money" to buy vote or any practice likely to harm the honesty of the elections.

The parties also decided to set up a committee to follow up the elections.

Morocco will hold by-elections on September 15 to renew one third of the 270-chamber of advisors, upper house of parliament.
