No more than 500 cardiologists in Morocco

The number of cardiologists practicing in Morocco does not exceed 500 practitioners, including 200 working in state hospitals, said chairman of the Moroccan cardiology association, Abdellatif Lakhssasi.

The heart surgeon told MAP, as his association is readying to hold next June 2 an encounter attended by national and foreign specialists, the six heart diseases centers in Morocco are not enough to treat the high number of persons suffering from heart conditions.

In addition, he went on, in view of the high cost of therapy, only 15% of people suffering from heart diseases have access to the appropriate medical care.

To make up for all these shortcomings, the association is endeavoring to consolidate solidarity, obtain more donations by benefactors and intensify cooperation with national and foreign partners, he said.
