Moroccan artist Latifa Tijani to participate in un conference on women 2000
The Islamic educational and cultural organization (ISESCO) is sponsoring the participation of Moroccan artist Latifa Tijani in the United Nations conference on "women 2000, gender equality, development and peace in the 21st century" scheduled this June 5-9 at UN headquarters in New York.
Artist Latifa Tijani is due to present to this international conference, attended by representatives of 189 countries and a host of creative women from all over the world, a distinguished artistic work titled "Alphabesque," a statement of the Rabat-based organization said.
Prepared exclusively for this international conference, the masterpiece highlights the value of Arabic characters and their role in the sustainability of Islamic culture and arts. The work itself consists of a velvet tent pitched out of Arabic characters to epitomize the Arab-Islamic civilization and express the genius of Arabic characters which constitute the mould of the Islamic civilization.
Expounding the artistic and civilizational purport of the title she has chosen, Latifa points out that "Alphabesque" is a combination of two words: Alphabet and Arabesque. Both words express Islamic artistic creation and refer to cognitive, civilizational and religious assets.
Latifa Tijani's Alphabesque is made up of 28 graphics forming a circle of 28 lunar signs representing each a specific character and a specific cognitive sign.
