Women account for 31 % of civil servants in Morocco, Moroccan civil service and administrative reform minister, Aziz Al-Hussein said.

There were 151,763 women working in the administration in 1998, ie 31 % of all civil servants, the minister said at a seminar on women senior executives.

Out of the 151,763 female civil servants, 20 % (30,751) hold senior positions in the administration, he said.

According to Al-Hussein the figure shows the growing important rank that women hold in the country's vital sectors, especially those of education and health.

He recalled that the number of Moroccan female civil servants witnessed a tangible growth, going up from 16 % in 1970 to 30 % in 1994.
