War continues between Ethiopia and Eritrea
Ethiopian planes on Monday struck a military airport near the Eritrea's capital Asmara for the first time since the beginning of the attacks held by the Ethiopian troops against Eritrea, two weeks ago.
Four Maige 23 S planes took part in the raid on the airport.
An eye-witness said that smoke was seen over the airport area, while warning whistles were heard in the city.
The Ethiopian raid on the airport was carried out while two delegations; one was Ethiopian and another from Eritrea headed for Algeria to hold talks for settling the border disputes between the two countries.
Meantime, the organization of African Unity proposed mediation between the two sides to hold indirect talks to settle the conflict.
For its part, Eritrea said that fighting erupted on Monday in the central areas near Tsourina city, 80 Km from Asmara.
On the other hand, the Ethiopian government on Monday accused Eritrea's authorities of killing 71 Ethiopian civilians living in Eritrea since resuming fighting between the two countries.
The Ethiopian news agency said that Eritrea's regime which had great losses at the hands of the Ethiopian forces tries to revenge its losses by killing innocent civilians in Eritrea. The Ethiopian news agency noted that some 50 Ethiopians were beaten to death in Kerein city, North west Asmara.
The same source added that earlier this month bodies of 21 Ethiopians were found under a bridge in Adisgido village, near Asmara.
Several refugees from Eritrea who fled from the battles on the western front, are currently staying in Kerein.
