London: Iraq is still dangerous
British minister of state for the foreign office Peter Haine stressed on Thursday that the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein still " able to own the ability to threaten the world and to rebuilding his military arsenal."
In a statement to the BBC radio on Thursday Haine asserted the need to permit the UN inspectors to inspect the arsenal Iraq owns, otherwise "Saddam Hussein will be owning the military force and is working to build this very forces and threatening the world.
He added the UNSCOM had announced that Iraq " makes weapons by using F-X gas and refuses to give definite evidences on what it has of biological weapons in his arsenal, noting that there is still an Iraqi team working to develop nuclear weapons.
Haine continued " for that reason we stress the need of permitting the UN committee for monitoring, investigation and inspection UNMOFIC) to return back to Iraq and continue its investigations according to UN resolution."
Worthy mentioning the UN resolution 1284 adopted by the UN security council on December 17. 1999 notes the possibility of suspending the economic embargo imposed on Iraq for 120 days to be renewed of Iraq collaborates with UNMOFIC.
Iraq, however, refuses the content of this resolution and calls for complete lifting of this UN resolution against permitting inspection activities which were halted in December 1998."
