Iraq continues to reject temporary lifting of sanctions

Originally published

Iraq's vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan on Tuesday said that Iraq categorically rejects UN resolution 1284 issued by the UN Security Council or any dialogue about it. This resolution aims to suspend economic sanctions on Iraq for 120 days if Iraq provides complete cooperation with the committee in charge of dismantling its weapons.

AFP quoted Ramadan, currently visiting Sanaa as saying to pressmen that this resolutions puts Iraq in a position worse than it is now, SANA reported.

Noteworthy is that Iraq calls for a complete lift of the embargo enforced on it since 1990 as a precondition to allow the resumption of inspection operations suspended since December of last year.
