The Malaysian capital city of Kuala Lumpur will host Thursday the Third Asia-Africa Forum, Malaysian news agency BERNAMA reported on Monday.

The three-day conference is part of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process in the form of follow-up activities and dialogue between high-level participants from Asia and Africa on how to strengthen cooperation between the two regions.

The forum will assess the progress in Asia-Africa Cooperation, especially in agricultural and private sector development, and will chart out directions for future cooperation.

The forum will allow Africa and Asia to work together to overcome capacity constraints to face the challenges of agricultural development and private sector development in the new millennium.

The forum will also come up with a New Millennium Statement for Asia-Africa Cooperation together with a set of recommendations for follow-up activities.

The Governments of Malaysia and Japan, as well as United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Special Coordinator for Africa and Least Developed Countries (UN/OSCAL) and the Global Coalition for Africa (GCA) jointly organize the encounter.
