African Development Bank postpones annual meetings due to Ethiopia- Eritrea war

Originally published

The African Development Bank group has announced the postponement of its annual meetings scheduled at the end of May in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

A statement released by the bank Thursday said it would convene an extraordinary meeting of the board of governors in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, 29-30 May.

"Further to consultations with member countries, the board of directors of the African Development Bank Group has decided to postpone the bank's annual meetings originally scheduled from 30 May to 1 June 2000 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia," the release said.

It added that "developments in the Horn of Africa region would be closely monitored and the matter of the annual meetings will be reviewed later in the year."

This is in reference to the renewed Ethiopia- Eritrea war, which broke out 12 May over a barren piece of land.
