The Algerian security forces killed the official in the fourth district for the Armed Islamic Group during mopping up operations these forces are carrying out in El Bayadh province, 683 km from the capital, Algiers.

The Algerian daily al-Khabar said the security forces also killed one armed group member during clashes between the two sides in El Tarf province, and three self-defense members were wounded during the confrontation.

The paper added that one Algerian soldier was killed when a traditional bomb went off in Sidi Bel Abbes province, as an army on-foot patrol was carrying out a mopping-up operation in the area.
