Arab League delegation to head to Baghdad in May
A delegation from the Arab League will head in May to Baghdad to meet with Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to discuss the topic of the Kuwaiti captives and demand the release of the captives.
This initiatives come by Mohammed Saleh El-Melkawi, head of the Jordanian committee for supporting the Kuwaiti captives, who called for forming an Arab delegation under the AL's umbrella headed by AL Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid and including Jordanian personalities such as ministers, deputies and men of religion, who will carry a million signatures asking Iraq to set the captives free.
Kuwait does not have hopes for this visit. A Kuwaiti source asserted that, "Even if the delegation met Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, it would not achieve the result of setting free the captives because they are considered as a political bargain paper in the hands of the Iraqi regime that it will not give it up easily."
The source warned that Baghdad may use the informational visit to throw the ball into Kuwait's court, asserting that Iraq is using any chance to instigate international public opinion against Kuwait.
