Mauritania issues new bank notes

Originally published

The Central Bank of Mauritania has put into circulation 500 and 1,000 Uguiya notes (204 ouguiya = $1). The bank said the new notes, which are forgery-proof, were meant to "better protect" the country's currency. The old 500 and 1,000 ouguiya notes would continue to be legal tender, it added.
