Moroccan-Japanese parliamentary cooperation probed in Tokyo

Originally published

A delegation from the chamber of advisors (upper house of the Moroccan parliament) paid a visit to Japan earlier this week where it probed with Japanese officials and MPs means to enhance economic cooperation.

The delegation that was led by the chamber's speaker, Mohamed Jalal Essaid, called Japanese economic operators to invest in Morocco and to set up joint ventures with Moroccan peers, saying that Morocco can be the springboard for Japanese products' exports towards Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

The two sides discussed the possibility of holding a parliamentary conference in Morocco on the assessment and prospects of Moroccan-Japanese relations. Economic operators would be invited to the conference to explore partnership opportunities.

The delegation called the Japanese foreign trade agency to open a branch in Morocco to enhance Japanese investments in the North African country and promote trade exchanges between the two countries.

Japanese Premier Keizo Obuchi pledged during a meeting with the Moroccan MPs that his country would spare no effort to back the development process underway in Morocco.
