Originally published

A visiting Japanese parliamentary delegation held talks on Monday with Mohamed Jalal Essaid, speaker of the Moroccan chamber of advisors (upper chamber of the parliament) and with Abdelaziz Alaoui Hafidi, first vice-speaker of the house of representatives.

The delegation, led by head of the regulation and administration committee at the Japanese parliament, offered to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people their condolences following the passing away last July 23 of King Hassan II.

The speaker of the Moroccan chamber of advisors recalled that the visit to Japan in 1987 of King Mohammed VI, then crown prince, marked a turning point in bilateral relations.

He also hailed Japan's positive attitude regarding the issue of Morocco's territorial integrity.

The head of the Japanese delegation announced the creation of a Japanese parliamentary friendship and cooperation association, stressing the need to support foundations of cooperation between the two countries and between their legislative branches.

Last February, the speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Abdelouahed Radi, visited Japan where he was received by Emperor Akihito and conferred with several Japanese officials on ways of boosting partnership in various sectors.
