Three Europeans jailed for drug trafficking
Three Europeans were sentenced to jail terms varying between 3 and 10 years after a Tangiers court found they were guilty of drug trafficking and acquitted a Spanish lorry driver whose arrest had spurred an angry movement by Spanish colleagues.
Spanish lorry driver Leal Monserat Francisco got a 10-year term and a $15,000 fine. He was arrested in the Tangiers port with 570 kg of cannabis extract, locally known as chira, concealed in his Scania lorry.
A French national, Alcina Marcel, was sentenced to 7 years in jail and to pay a fine worth $25,000. He was also caught in Tangiers port with 890 kg of chira in his Volvo lorry.
The Tangiers court also sentenced an Italian national, Bacig Aluppi, to three years and to pay a $1,000 fine for the same charges. His wife, Pongetti Francesca, was acquitted.
The court also acquitted another Spanish Trevino Manuel Palma, who was accused of drug trafficking.
