Originally published

Following its poor performance in the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2000), co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria, Morocco has ceded its rank as top African nation on the monthly FIFA world ranking to South Africa.

Morocco ranks 23rd with 625 points, while South Africa, which came in third in CAN-2000, is 21st with 631 points.

Cameroon, the new lords of African football, moved up to the 34th rank with 583 points.

There has been no change among the high-flyers on the top rungs, Brazil still leading the world with 836 points, followed by the Czech Republic with 772 and France with 762.
