Football: Morocco joins the group of the weak

Originally published

Morocco, which topped African nations on the FIFA ranking for a long time, fell from the heights in the African Cup of Nations (CAN-2000), co-hosted by Nigeria and Ghana.

The Moroccans, who were edged out in the first round of the CAN-2000, will be among the group of weaker teams that will play the preliminary heats of the next African Cup of Nations.

Morocco will play Guinea-Bissau, a team with a blank record at African and international levels.

Some 42 countries will play the preliminary heats before joining the groups formed by the eight teams that played the quarter finals of the CAN-2000, namely Cameroon, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt and Ghana.
