Ahmadi-Nejad's visit to Syria positive results
Syria-Iran, Politics, 7/23/2007
A Syrian expert on strategic studies Samir al-Taqi said yesterday that Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad's speech at a joint press conference with Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in Syria on Thursday indicated the power of regional deterrent forces to defuse enemy conspiracies.
Al-Taqi said that Iran and Syria are closely following growing crisis in the region and are quite aware of the fact some US and Israeli statesmen have anti-Iran or anti-Syria adventurism in mind.
The expert said that during his visit to Syria -- though being short -- Ahmadi-Nejad and Assad discussed many issues, including Iran's nuclear issue and developments in Iraq and Syria as well as the Arab-Israel conflict and ways to counter the US policies on the region.
The expert predicted that Ahmadi-Nejad's Damascus visit would have highly positive outcome for Iran and Syria.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said the visit by the Iranian President was to discuss "major regional issues including developments in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine ...They also exchanged views on bilateral ties and stressed the need for bolstering of economic and technical cooperation between Tehran and Damascus."
