Lebanese siege of Palestinian positions
Lebanon-Palestine, Politics, 10/27/2005

The Lebanese army on Wednesday besieged military positions run by the People's Front For Liberation Of Palestine- General Command, including a network of tunnels dug in the mountains in Sultan Yaqoub ( Jacob) area in the eastern Bekaa area.

The Lebanese national agency for media said that the Lebanese army called on the Palestinian activists using loudspeakers to leave the Sultan Yaqoub position, but the agency withdrew its report later.

Security officials and witnesses said that the Lebanese army took several inspection points around the area and warned the organization to hand over persons who opened fire on Tuesday at a Lebanese survey employee who was killed as a result.

However, a spokesman for the Lebanese army denied later that his army warned the organization's centers.

Meantime, a spokesman for the organization, Anwar Raja, said that he had no knowledge to any warning addressed by the army, but he confirmed that "Lebanese soldiers were deployed around our base in Sultan Yaqoub," accusing a third party to launching rumors in order to create confrontations between the Palestinians and our brothers in the Lebanese army "

The spokesman also denied "the involvement of the People Front- General Command in the incident which resulted in killing a Lebanese land surveyor, who was contracted with the Lebanese army.
