Egypt interferes to solve the difference between Arafat, Qurei'
Palestine-Egypt, Politics, 9/9/2004

The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak made telephone calls with the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the Israeli prime minister Ahmad Qurei', in an attempt to purify the atmospheres between the two men over the Palestinian position concerning the Donor States meeting due to be held in New York by the end of the current month.

According to Palestinian sources, Qurei' threatened to resign in protest of the Arafat's backtracking of an earlier decision which demands the postponement of the conference and his persistence on the need not to boycott it despite the intention of the donor states to limit its projects for the three coming years to Gaza area. A matter which bears negative indications on the Palestinian position concerning the occupied West Bank.

News reports said that Qrei had asked the two Palestinian Presidents Saeb Oreikat and Nabil Shaath to carry his book of resignation to Arafat, but Palestinian and Egyptian sides interfered to end this crisis.

Meantime, Palestinian medical sources said that one chased Palestinian was killed on Wednesday evening during an Israeli incursion in Areiha, the West Bank.

Amre Eideyeh ( 30 year old) was a members in al-Aqsa martyrs groups of the Fatah Movement, according to the same Palestinian sources, adding that he was injured by the bullets of the Israeli soldiers in an Internet cafe and died in Areiha hospital. A second Palestinian was hit in his neck.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, one Palestinian from al-Aqsa martyrs group also killed by an explosion in his booby trapped car near a car for the Israeli intelligence in Baqa town to the north of Toulkarem in the West Bank near the wall of separation between Israel and the Palestinian territories.

In Hebron, to the south of the West Bank, the occupation forces detained the activist in Hamas movement Adel al-Zaatari after he was strongly injured as his house was besieged. The occupation forces also detained four activists during the operation.

Recent hours witnessed new incursions for the Israeli forces in various areas to the south and north of Gaza.
