Iraq, Politics, 9/6/2004

The Islamic army group in Iraq in a televised video tape broadcast by al-Jazerera TV on Saturday announced responsibility for the assassination attempt which claimed the life of the leader if the Iraqi National Congress party Ahmad Chalabi.

This group said it was able to capture one of Chalabi guards. Part of the tape shows one of the guards saying that three of his friends were killed in the attack. The guard, according to al-Jazeera talked about "Chalabi relations with the US congress and Iran." Al-Jazeera said that the "Islamic army in Iraq said in a televised video tape "the hostage who was injured during Chalabi's assassination attempt died because of his wounds."

Chalabi said on Saturday "It is true they kidnapped one of my guards but they are lying when they say that the other guard died of his wounds. They had killed him." He added "it is a terrorist act, those who made it are not Muslims. This situation is no longer bearable. The southern Baghdad area should be cleaned from all terrorists."
