Iraqi Prime Minister arrival statements in Damascus

Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi arrived Friday in Damascus in an official three-day visit to Syria during which he will hold discussions with Syrian officials in a bid to developing cooperation between the two states.

The Premier was welcomed at Damascus International Airport by his Syrian Counterpart Naji Otari, Ministers of Finance, Health, Transport, Interior, Oil and Mineral Resources, Local Administration and Environment.

He was also met by Minister of State for the People's Assembly Affairs and Chairman of State Planning Committee.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Allawi expressed happiness over his visit to Syria, lauding Syria's support to Iraq and keenness on Iraq's security, territorial integrity and stability.

Allawi stressed that the current cooperation ties between Syria and Iraq would catch mutual concern saying, " This is to develop and upgrade these ties in all fields in a way that embodies interests and hopes of the two countries and sisterly peoples." He also hoped that the visit will achieve the aspired targets.

Otari, For his part, underlined that "the visit will give a momentum to brotherly cooperation between Syria and Iraq in the economic, commercial, development and political domains."

" We are optimistic regarding the results of this visit through the joint vision and aspirations that tie the two countries and peoples," he added.

Allawi is accompanied by an official delegation including Ministers of Planning, Health, Environment, Interior, Oil, Transport and a number of state ministers, managers and technicians.
