Washington; we do not support the separation of the Kurds
Syria-USA, Politics, 3/19/2004

The US yesterday denied that its position which calls for stopping "oppressing" the Kurds in Syria to constitute an encouragement for "separation."

The spokesman for the US Department Of State, Adam Early, said replying to a question "we do not support separation. we do support peaceful practice of people's rights in the context of the unity of lands." He added that the idea of the American support for a Kurdish separation in Syria " s a mere production," noting that " as the case in our policy in Iraq, we do support sovereignty over the Iraqi lands. And this is evident in our policy for the neighbors of Iraq."

The department on Wednesday called on Damascus "to stop oppressing non- violent political demonstration in Syria," considering that the Kurds are protesting against "inequality in rights."
