al-Hayat: Larsen commends Syria's peace initiative

UN Middle East Special Envoy, Terri Road Larsen, expressed appreciation over President Bashar al-Assad's call to resume peace negotiations on the basis of the UN Security Council's resolutions Nos. 242 and 338 and "Land for Peace formula," calling Israel to comply with this call asserting that the international organization's stance regarding the Israeli settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan as illegal and illegitimate.
In a statement to London-based al-Hayat newspaper, Larsen said the President al-Assad's announcement of Syria's readiness to resume peace negotiations on the basis of the mentioned resolutions is a highly appreciated stance.
He also asserted that the Israeli government should comply to this call for its interest.
On the Israeli plan of the expansion of the settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan, Larsen stressed on that the UN stance regarding settlement didn't and will not change adding that the Israeli settlements are illegal and must be halted.
