Blair: we understand Israel's action, but we will not attack Syria
Syria-UK, Politics, 10/16/2003
The British prime minister Tony Blair showed implicitly yesterday his understanding to the recent Israeli aggression against Syria, hinting that it came as an reply from " thedemocratic regime" in Israel to the "massacre the Innocents Israelis live in as a result of the Palestinian operations."
However, the British prime minister tried, simultaneously, to keep himself distant from the American position declared by the advisor for the US Defense Department Richard Pearl on Tuesday in Israel concerning an American military strike against Syria.
Replying to a question to members of the British House Of Commons yesterday concerning Pearl's statement and the position of the British government over the possibility of launching an American - Israeli military action against Syria, Blair said "London does not have any plan to take part in any military action against Syria."
Blair concluded by saying that people have to realize the extent "a state like Israel, which is a democratic country, faces when it sees its citizens exposed to these horrifying terrorist attacks. Necessarily creating the need to retaliate and to do some thing to this effect." It is not clear if Blair feels the same need for the Palestinians for acts against them .
