On the visit of al-Assad to Saudi Arabia

The London- based al-Hayat daily in its Tuesday's issue quoted a Syrian source as saying on the occasion of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad's visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday that Damascus is making efforts to improve the Iraqi - Gulf relations, on the ground of the reconciliation achieved during the recent Beirut Arab summit conference.

The Syrian source underlined the importance of a common Arab position rejecting all the American threats to Iraq, on the ground that this plan threatens the Arabs as a whole.

For its part, the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat said in a report from Damascus on the visit of the Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan's official visit to Damascus on Tuesday, the Iraq, hopes, according to well-informed sources that the Syrian official position will be crystallized in rejection to launching a military attack against Iraq and to be developed towards revitalizing the Beirut's summit declaration and the common Arab defense charter through Syria's confirmation on the fact any aggression against one Arab state is but an aggression on the Arab states as a whole.
