Al-Shara in Iran to voice Syria's solidarity with Iran

The Iranian President Muhammad Khatami on Wednesday in Tehran received the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara who conveyed a message from President Bashar al-Assad pertaining to latest developments at the regional and international levels and stressed Syria's solidarity with Iran's leadership, government and people.
On the Iranian side the meeting was attended by the foreign minister Kamal Kharazi, the Iranian ambassador in Damascus Hussein Sheikh al-Islam and the director of Asia department at the Iranian foreign ministry.
On the Syrian side the meeting was attended by the Syrian ambassador in Iran Turkei Saqer and the director of the private offices at the foreign ministry Muwaffaq Nassar.
Discussions dealt with conditions in the region especially the escalation of the aggressive attitude of the Israeli government in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In this regard, the Iranian president stressed Iran's support to the just struggle mounted by the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, stressing Iran's support for Syria and the Arab nation.
President Khatami stressed the need of unifying the efforts of the Islamic states in confrontation of challenges facing the Islamic world.
For his part, al-Shara expressed Syria's appreciation to the Iranian position in support of the Arab right, stressing Syria's solidarity with the Republic of Iran amid the current critical prevailing conditions.
Discussions also dealt with the remarkable bilateral relations between the two countries and means of strengthening them at all levels.
On Wednesday afternoon a round of talks were held between the Syrian side led by the Foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Iranian side led by Kamal Kharazi. The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and latest developments at the regional and international levels as well as the position of the two countries "regarding developments and incidents taking place in the region especially the prevailing escalations as a result of the massacres committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people. View points were identical regarding the requirements for the steadfastness of the Palestinian Intifada launched by the unarmed Palestinians."
The two sides stressed the need of the unity of the Arab and Islamic ranks in challenge of the grave challenges imposed on the peoples of the region and announced categorical rejection to any aggression targeting Iraq and undermines its territorial integrity and security.
As for the prevailing conditions in Afghanistan, al-Shara highly appreciated "the role played by Iran to restore back security and stability to this country and contributing to rebuilding it."
Al-Shara arrived in Tehran earlier in the day on Wednesday. In an arrival statement to pressmen al-Shara said:" I am happy with this visit. I am carrying a message from President Bashar al-Assad to President Muhammad Khatami." al-Shara added:" I will hold talks with Dr Kharazi and meet with several high ranking Iranian officials.
