Qatar has proposed a candidate for the post of the secretary general for the Gulf Co-operation Council GCC to succeed the current secretary general Jamil al-Hujeilan. News reports in Bahrain quoted well-informed sources at the GCC general secretariat as saying that Doha nominated its foreign ministry secretary Abdul Rahman Hamad al-Ateyah, noting that there is an agreement among the GCC member states on the Qatari nominee to succeed al-Hujeilan, of the Saudi nationality.
