On the high-jacked Syrian ship

The Saudi daily al-Watan in its Friday's issue revealed new information about the question of high-jacking the Syrian ship " Jaafar' and the paper also stressed that the ship was high-jacked since almost five months, as from December 23, 2000.
The paper added, quoting the director of naval inspection at the general directorates of ports in Lattakia Ahmad Youssef that the high-jackers made contacts with the relatives of the ship crew and asked, in the beginning for a ransom of $ 300,000 and then they retreated and asked only for a ransom of $ 10,000, but the owner of the ship Mahmoud Ali Ibrahim left the crew and the ship and disappeared.
The paper added that the security authorities in Syria continue its investigations about the place where the owner of the ship is , as he left the ship and its crew "facing hunger and even death," noting that the ship has now anchored in one of the ports near the Somali coast while the fate of the crew is still unknown.
Al-Watan explained that the ship is registered officially in the documents of the general directorates for port on August 18, 1991, under the name of al-Asaad, and it is made in Holland and of 755 tons weight and it mostly travels between the countries of the Red Sea: Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti and Yemen.
