First Arab plane breaks sanctions on Iraq

The Jordanian Cabinet has decided in a special session held on Tuesday to send a Jordanian plane to Baghdad today to be boarded by a large Jordanian delegation including a group of ministers, parliament members and doctors.
The Jordanian acting minister of culture and information Mahmoud al-Kayed said in a press statement that sending the Jordanian plane which will return back to Amman tomorrow ( Thursday) is but a sort of declaring solidarity with the Iraqi people and its first mission, will be in the first place a humanitarian task, as it will carry amounts of medicines and medical requirements.
Al-Kayed explained that Jordan informed the UN about this matter, expressing his hope that this phase will be the beginning for regular flights between the two states.
Meantime, the Jordanian foreign minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib said on Tuesday that Jordan is taking necessary measures to send shortly a Jordanian plane to Baghdad carrying a high ranking official delegation.
Meantime, a Jordanian governmental delegation explained that this first flight by a Jordanian plane since the embargo imposed on Iraq in 1990 will be carried out within the coming 48 hours.
Al-Khatib said that Jordanian parliament members, ministers and officials will be on board of the plane.
