Saudi monarch donates 5 million dollars for Chechens
King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia donated five million dollars for the Chechen Muslims, currently exposed to fierce Russian military offensives.
State-run news agency (SPA) said Sunday the grant was part of a nationwide fundraising campaign, organized by the Saudi television and the joint Saudi relief committee for Kosovo and Chechnya, which have so far collected some 12.5 million dollars.
The campaign was held following a call by the government to help the Chechen people.
The Saudi government lashed out at the Russian military operations in Chechnya, saying the offensives were violating the 1949 Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians and called on Russia to cease its attacks immediately, MAP reported.
