Abul Gheit hopes UNSC Resolution would suspend sanctions on Iraq
Egypt's Permanent Delegate to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmed Abul Gheit said that the UN Security Council's Resolution, issued Friday on setting a new mechanism for inspecting on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction programs, should lead at the end to a final lifting of sanctions imposed on Baghdad.
In his statements to the Middle East News Agency (MENA) on the resolution, he urged the UN Security Council member states to show good intentions towards the Iraqi government and try to persuade it to accept this resolution.
On his vision on this resolution, he noted that after being endorsed, its implementation should represent a step on the road to lifting the sanctions imposed on the Iraqi people outright.
"The implementation of this resolution with good intention should not only be confined to the Iraqi side but the Council has to shoulder its responsibilities within a fixed timetable as defined in the resolution," he added.
