Syrian Jews and peace between Israel and Syria
The mouthpiece of Jews in Britain, the Jewish Chronicle daily, said on Saturday that there are differences between the Syrian Jews in Israel over welcoming the current peace moves between Syria and Israel, as they hope to visit their former country, Syria.
Rabbi Ibrahim Hamra of the Syrian Jews who arrived in Israel five years ago when Damascus opened the doors of migration of Syrian Jews to Israel welcomed the Syrian- Israeli peace moves.
Hamra, who lives near Tel Aviv, told the Jewish Chronicle that he is looking forward to visiting Damascus and meeting with old friends.
Hamra continued that he also wants to extend thanks to Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, whom he met personally, over resuming negotiations with Israel.
