Originally published

King Mohammed VI received on Friday Mahmoud Abou Abbas, secretary general of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The meeting was attended by the Palestinian ambassador in Rabat, Abu Marwane, and Moroccan Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Taieb Fassi Fihri.

In a related development, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat said in a message to the king that the Palestinians, who are going through a decisive and extremely delicate stage, need, more than ever, a powerful, strong and united Ummah (nation).

Arafat said, in a congratulation message on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan which started Friday in Morocco, that Palestinians need a strong Arab-Islamic nation to support their resistance and consolidate their legitimate position in the final status negotiations to ensure that the outcome of these negotiations will be conform to justice, equity, international resolutions and the establishment of a fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
