Albright meets Mubarak today
US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is meeting today with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to hold talks concerning Sudan, Iraq and the peace process in her tour of the area, which aims at revitalizing the peace process on its different tracks.
Albright's visit to Cairo is to last for a few hours, during which she will also meet with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa to inform him and President Mubarak of the results of her talks with officials in Damascus, Tel Aviv and Gaza and the coming US steps to motivate the peace process.
Albright's visit comes in different circumstances than her visits in January and August, due to the difference in stances between Cairo and Washington concerning the Sudanese issue and the USA's preference for the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Sudan peace initiative, while Egypt and Libya raise an initiative that is accepted by all the parties concerned with the Sudanese file.
