Head of human rights council hopes victims of forced disappearance or arbitrary detention will be fairly compensated

Originally published

Chief justice of the Supreme Court and head of the Advisory Human Rights Council (CCDH), Driss Dahhak, hoped Wednesday that victims of arbitrary detention and relatives of missing persons will receive a fair compensation.

In an interview with the Moroccan national television "TVM," the magistrate said the commission should extend these persons help, in the broad meaning, in addition to financial compensation.

Dahhak further stated that the independent arbitration commission, set up last August by King Mohammed VI, has received a large number of applications (1,370 up to Wednesday), much more than the requests submitted to the CCDH or to the government by local and international human rights organizations.

According to the CCDH chairman, there is no contradiction between a CCDH published list of 112 missing cases and the present list of 1,370 applications, since the first list included cases reported at that time.

The arbitration commission is entrusted with studying applications and conducting investigation to determine the harm incurred by the concerned persons and guarantee a fair compensation to victims or their inheritors.
