Sudanese opposition coalition claims responsibility for blasting oil pipeline

Originally published

The Sudanese opposition Democratic National Alliance on Tuesday officially announced responsibility for the explosion of an oil pipeline which took place last Sunday in the eastern part of Sudan.

The spokesman for the coalition's united military leadership, Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Saeed Abdul Rahman, stressed in a statement issued on Tuesday that "a special unit from the national coalition of al-Bajja conference blasted the incoming oil pipeline in Dahnet area to the west of Swaken city."

He added, "This operation is made to assure once again the determination of the Democratic National Alliance to eliminate the regime of the Islamic front by peaceful or warlike means, rather than reconciliation, bargaining or partitioning the authority with it."

The statement warned all "companies working in the field of oil in Sudan against cooperating with the Islamic front regime and that the oil pipeline and areas of its production are always legitimate military targets."

In Khartoum, the Sudanese Ministry of Energy on Tuesday said the oil pumping process has been fully started through the pipeline which transports oil from Port Sudan to Khartoum, after the damage caused by the attack was repaired.
