Blair envoy in Damascus today discuss Syrian peace track
Michael Levy, envoy of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, is arriving today in Damascus, where he will hold discussions in the Syrian Foreign Ministry regarding means of resuming negotiations halted by Israel with Syria in 1996.
Levy's visit comes as Europe tries to revitalize its endeavors to push forward the peace process.
The Syrian official newspaper al-Baath considered yesterday the statements of British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook supporting Damascus' position and its right to resume negotiations from the point at which they stopped as being positive statements.
