Attack against Israel's embassy in Amman
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that its embassy in the Jordanian capital, Amman, was exposed on Tuesday at 1 p.m. to an attack by a person who approached the premises of the embassy, carrying a pistol and explosives.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry added that a person approached the headquarters of the embassy and fired one shot from his pistol, but the Jordanian security forces arrested him immediately. The ministry added that this person is being questioned.
The Israeli embassy in Amman stressed that the attack took place. It said that a man carrying a pistol was arrested outside the embassy's headquarters in al-Rabeyah quarter in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
Meanwhile, a Jordanian official source said that an armed man opened fire against the embassy before he was hit by the embassy guards and then arrested.
Well-informed sources in the Jordanian capital, Amman, said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the attacker is called Nabil Hassan, born in Oman Sultanate and he is a resident in Amman. But Oman denied that man is an Omani.
Oman's ambassador accredited in Jordan, Sheikh Hamad Bin Helal al-Ma'mari, said in a statement that the attacker is a citizen from an Arab country and his name is Abdul Fattah. The Omani ambassador added that he contacted Jordanian Minister of the Interior Nayef al-Qadi, who asserted to the ambassador that that person has no connection to Oman, SANA reported.
