UK to resume full diplomatic relations with Libya
The UK decided to send an ambassador to Libya in the coming month in a step toward resuming full relations between the two countries. Relations were boycotted after the shooting of a British policewoman in front of the Libyan embassy in London.
Libyan sources said today, "We presented compensation for the killing of the policewoman," and that there is complete satisfaction by the UK government toward this step.
Meanwhile, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said today that Richard Dalton has been appointed as Britain's ambassador to Tripoli. It added that the appointment will begin in December.
The UK boycotted the relations with Libya before the Lockerbie case after the 1984 assassination of a policewoman, as it is believed that the shot came from within the embassy during a demonstration against the Libyan government.
