Canceling martial law in Israel
Israeli Justice Minister Yossi Beilin assured of canceling the martial law that has prevailed in Israel for 51 years.
This law was issued when the Arab armies invaded Israel after the establishment of Israel in 1948, when the law was enforced for 12 months and has been renewed annually ever since.
This law enables Israel to detain any suspect without being officially accused for trial.
Beilin said he wants to replace the law with provisions that maintain Israel's security while guaranteeing human rights.
