Iraq revives project for pipeline to transport gas to Turkey
Iraqi Minister of Oil Amir Mohammed Rashid said in press statements yesterday that Iraq is taking steps to revive a project for a pipeline to export natural gas to Turkey, saying to El-Ekesadi newspaper that his ministry took effective steps to revive the project of transporting natural gas from Iraq to Turkey.
In 1997, Iraq and Turkey signed a preliminary agreement to extend a pipeline between them with an annual capacity of 10-billion cubic meters, and the agreement was completed in Turkey during Rashid's visit.
The agreement calls for establishing a pipeline stretching 1,300 kilometers at a cost of $2.5 billion from the Iraqi city of Karkouk to Turkey's harbors on the Mediterranean Sea.
