Disputes on amending constitution warn of confrontation between El-Bashir and Turabi
The issue of amending some items of the Sudanese constitution warn of a confrontation between the Sudanese president and the National Council (parliament), especially as the raised adjustments reduce the specializations and power granted by the constitution to the president.
Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir formed a ministerial committee headed by the minister of justice to study the issue of adjustments in light of what resulted from the practical experience gained since ratifying the constitution at the end of last year.
The parliament held a similar session that raised a draft to amend the special items through discharging and electing the states' governors as the suggested amendment limits the authority of the Sudanese president regarding nominating and discharging governors so that their election would be made through a direct vote from the electors in the state.
