Sudan denies Saudi mediation

Originally published

Ahmed Abd El-Halim, the Sudanese ambassador in Cairo and its permanent delegate at the Arab League, denied the existence of a Saudi mediation to achieve reconciliation between the Sudanese government and opposition, saying in a symposium organized by the African studies institute in Cairo University that, "What Saudi Arabia offered was its readiness to host the opposition meeting and the government, preparing the place as well as protecting it without mediating between us and them or between others."

Abd El-Halim blamed the USA for delaying any attempt to achieve progress between the government and the opposition, expressing his hope that the meeting of the front of the opposition Democratic National Alliance, which will be convened in Kampala on November 22, succeeds.

He also emphasized that the Libyan - Egyptian initiative and IGAD initiative are not contradictory and that they complete each other, but he said there are attempts to fail these two initiatives, urging the opposition to be aware of these attempts.
