Israel agrees to sell weapons to Jordan

Originally published

Official sources in the defense sector in Israel said that the Ministry of Defense gave permission to an Israeli company for military industries to sell weapons to Jordan.

The Israeli Haaretz newspaper said yesterday that the permission to sell munitions and light weapons to Jordan is the first which allows an Israeli company to sell military tools to an Arab country.

Meanwhile, high-ranking officials informed the newspaper that this step enables a military industries company to negotiate with Jordan, but they said no tangible suggestions have been drafted yet and actual sales will not take place soon.

The newspaper added that the Israeli defense institution has provided Christian forces in the Lebanese south, Kurds in Iraq, and rebels in Sudan with weapons through the Israeli intelligence body, the Mossad.

It added that, "The supporters of the latest Israeli step regard it as a normal extension of the actual strategic cooperation between Israel and Jordan, which relates the two countries with peace treaty signed five years ago."
